Earlier on January 9, several hundred supporters of the former presidential candidate of Abkhazia Alhas Quitsinia went to the building of the Abkhaz Drama Theater in Sukhum.
Then they moved to the building of the Presidential Administration with a demand to recognize the presidential elections that were held in the summer of 2019, invalid. Then, with an advantage of 1%, the current president of the republic Raul Hadjimba won. He received 47.39% of the vote, and the leader of the Opposition Party of Amtsahara Alhas Quitsinia gained 46.17% of the vote.
The Supreme Court of Abkhazia on Thursday began a hearing considering the cassation appeal of Quitsinia about the court decision, according to which the results of the elections of the President of Abkhazia were recognized as valid.
Abkhazia President Raul Hadjimba told Interfax that he continues to fulfill his duties and does not intend to hide anywhere. “I am in Sukhumi at the workplace in the building of the state authority,” he said.
