Robert Aiger, who headed Disney since 2005, left his post. This was announced by the board of directors of the company.
According to Aiger, the decision to leave was not spontaneous, he planned it for several months. According to the former general director, right now - after the successful launch of Disney+ and a major transaction from the 21st Century Fox - the most suitable time has come to change the leadership.
By decision of the board of directors of the company, Bob Chapek, who will “lead the creative efforts of the company”, as well as oversee all business segments, was appointed general director of Disney.
Aiger himself, speaking of his successor, noted that he completely trusts Chapek and is waiting for cooperation with him. Chapek, in turn, said that he would continue the line of the previous leader and would also strive for creative perfection, technological innovation and international expansion of the company.
Robert Aiger remains in the company and will be headed by the Disney Board of Directors until the end of 2021.
Aiger began working in Disney in 1996. After 4 years, he replaced the previous head of Michael Icener as his post. Under Aiger, Disney became the largest company in Hollywood and made several key transactions: she purchased Pixar for $ 7.4 billion in 2006, in 2009 she bought Marvel for $ 4 billion, and in 2012 for $ 4 billion - Lucasfilm. In 2019, Disney made the largest deal in the history of Hollywood and acquired 21st Century Fox assets for more than $ 71 billion.
In the fall of 2019, Bob Aiger was called the most influential person in the entertainment industry according to The Hollywood Reporter.
