
The organizing committee of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum decided not to hold the event in 2020 in connection with the outbreak of coronavirus around the world and information about its distribution in the PMEF member countries. This was reported by Kommersant with reference to the statement of the chairman of the organizing committee PMEF-2020 Andrei Belousov.
"In order to protect the health of Russian citizens, guests and participants in the forum this year, they decided not to hold it," Belousov said.
PMEF-2020 was supposed to pass from June 3 to 6. It has been held annually since 1997, and since 2005 - with the participation of the President of Russia. Each year, the number of participants exceeds 10 thousand people who come from more than 120 countries, including the leaders of the largest Russian and foreign companies, heads of state and political leaders, government chairmen, deputy prime ministers, ministers, and governors.
It is known that the Russian investment forum in Sochi was previously canceled, among the participants of which there were about 500 foreigners from countries where coronavirus infection officially registered.
Also, in connection with the spread of infection, the Beijing International Motor Show and the World Mobile Congress in Barcelona was canceled.
The spread of coronavirus infection of a new type began in December 2019 in the Chinese province of Hubay.
The number of coronavirus infectedas of March 5 exceeded 95 thousand people. More than 80 thousand sick in China, more than three thousand were killed. In total, 3284 people died from the virus. More than 53 thousand people recovered, but cases of re -infection have become more frequent.
Coronavirus was detected in 79 countries. In second place in terms of incidence after China - South Korea, 5766 infected were recorded there, 35 died. In third place is Italy, where 107 people became victims of the virus, 3089 infected. On the fourth - Iran, where 92 people have already died.
