A follower of Said Nursi was placed under house arrest in Naberezhnye Chelny

It is reported that Nakia Sharifullina, previously convicted under Art. 282.2 of the Criminal Code.

In March 2020, we learned that a follower (or several followers) of the Muslim theologian Said Nursi was detained in Naberezhnye Chelny (Republic of Tatarstan). In Russia, they are considered members of the Nurcular association, which is recognized as an extremist organization.

On March 25, the court sent Nakiya Sharifullina (b. 1958), who had already been convicted under Part 1 of Art. 282.2 of the Criminal Code (organization of the activities of an extremist organization). She is again suspected of organizing the activities of a "home madrasah". According to investigators, at least nine times in 2019, under the guise of conducting classes on the study of the Koran and the Turkish language, she introduced Nursi’s works from the Risale-i Nur collection to the audience, including the recognized extremist books Letters, Words . and The Path of Positive Service . The investigation also believes that Sharifullina in the classroom was engaged in public propaganda of the ideas of "Nurcular" and conducted individual work with potential members of the association.

The criminal case was initiated on March 24, 2020. In relation to an indefinite circle of persons - participants in the meetings - a case was initiated under Part 2 of Art. 282.2 of the Criminal Code (participation in the activities of an extremist organization).

We do not consider it legitimate to ban both the works of Said Nursi and the Nurcular organization, which did not exist in Russia at all, and we oppose the persecution of readers of Nursi's books as members of an extremist organization.
