The court upheld the sentence of a Karelian anarchist for her comment on the explosion in the Arkhangelsk FSB

The judicial panel of the Military Court of Appeal upheld a fine of 350 thousand rubles to Karelian anarchist Ekaterina Muranova in the case of justifying terrorism. This was reported in the Telegram channel “Human Rights Postcards”.

The meeting was held via videoconference from the building of the Petrozavodsk Garrison Military Court. The girl was represented by Human Rights Postcard lawyer Robert Osyan.

“The good news is that we have already managed to collect the necessary amount to pay the fine,” human rights activists write.

In December 2019, Ekaterina Muranova was found guilty under the article on justifying terrorism (Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code) and was sentenced to a fine. According to investigators, on November 2, 2018, the girl, “sharing the ideology of anarchism, realizing the illegal nature and social danger of her actions...”, published a comment in a group on VKontakte, as well as a post on her page. The materials were dedicated to Mikhail Zhlobitsky, who committed an explosion at the FSB building.

Muranova did not deny that she wrote this comment, but does not consider it a justification for terrorism.

• On the morning of October 31, 2018, in the FSB building in Arkhangelsk, 17-year-old local resident Mikhail Zhlobitsky detonated a bomb. Three employees were injured, the young man himself died. A few minutes before the explosion, a message about the attack appeared in the telegram open chat of “Rebel Rebel”. A criminal case has been opened regarding a terrorist attack.
• In addition to Muranova, at least ten criminal cases are known about justification of terrorism in connection with the suicide bombing of Mikhail Zhlobitsky. Among the accused is Pskov journalist Svetlana Prokopyeva, who discussed the reasons for Zhlobitsky’s action on Echo of Moscow.
