Enver Seytosmanov's sentence upheld

The Court of Appeal approved the punishment for Enver Seitosmanov, convicted under Art. 205.5 of the Criminal Code for involvement in the radical Hizb ut-Tahrir party, which is recognized as a terrorist organization in Russia.

On April 16, 2020, the Military Court of Appeal considered the appeal against the sentence of Enver Seitosmanov, who was sentenced to 17 years in prison for organizing the activities of a terrorist organization (Part 1 of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code), and left it unchanged.

Seitosmanov was sentenced on December 5, 2019 by the Southern District Military Court. He was found guilty of involvement in the activities of the radical Islamic party Hizb ut-Tahrir, which is recognized as a terrorist organization in Russia.

Seitosmanov was detained in May 2018 near Sevastopol, along with his brother Ernes, who became a witness in the case. The Seitosmanov brothers are cousins ​​of Nuri Primov, convicted in 2016.

We believe that the persecution of members of Hizb ut-Tahrir under "terrorist articles" only on the basis of party activities (holding meetings, reading literature, etc.) is unlawful, since this party was not seen to be involved in terrorism.
