A 17-year-old Jehovah's Witness who was beaten during interrogation in front of his sister and mother filed a complaint with the investigation department.
In early June 2020, it became known that in Chita, 17-year-old Jehovah's Witness Alexander Karpov, who was beaten during interrogation in front of his sister and mother, filed a complaint with the investigative department. On May 23, A. Karpov was interrogated by investigators. The incident he is complaining about took place on February 10, 2020: at 6 am, masked police officers broke into the home of a Jehovah's Witnesses family, threw him to the floor and beat him on the back, legs and ribs until he bled.
Beatings and traces of blood were recorded by a medical examiner. On February 10, the search continued in their house for 12 hours.
Recall that the accusation of Jehovah's Witnesses of involvement in the activities of an extremist organization is due to the fact that in April 2017 the Supreme Court of Russia decided to recognize the Administrative Center of Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia and 395 local religious organizations of Jehovah's Witnesses as extremist. We believe that this decision, which entailed the mass persecution of believers under Art. 282.2 of the Criminal Code, had no legal grounds, and we regard it as a manifestation of religious discrimination.
