Programmers showed the vulnerability of the online voting system that allows voters to melt the votes-“Open Media”

The organizers of electronic voting on amendments to the Constitution have a technical opportunity to strangle voters of voters. The members of the working group told Open Media about this.

According to the interlocutors of the publication, in preparation for voting in the Department of Information Technology of Moscow (DIT), they did not listen to any of the proposals of the working group that would allow making the system more transparent. It is emphasized that experts criticize the online voting system from the “experiment” in the elections of the Moscow City Duma, held in September 2019.

In addition, according to one of the members of the group, the programmer and member of the territorial election commission Yevgeny Fedin, officials also did not eliminate the “critical vulnerability”, which allows the organizers to harness the results of voters. He explained that part of the software code leaves the voting operator, in the role of which the Moscow City Hall acts, the technical opportunity to change the choice in the ballot before encryption and sending blockchains for storage.

“The most dangerous thing to do is write down a different voice instead of the voter filed, but with the help of an additional script you can do other things: remove the option“ no ”, or make it moved to one of the squares for marking, not allowing to put a checkmark. It would be hooliganism, of course, but technically easy to do, ”added Fedin in a conversation with“ open media ”.
