The prosecutor’s office during the debate in the Petrozavodsk City Court requested 15 years of a maximum security colony for the head of the Karelian branch of the Memorial Society and the historian Yuri Dmitriev, who was accused of sexual violence over the adopted daughter. This was reported by the correspondent "Mediazons".
Dmitriev does not plead guilty.
The head of the Karelian Memorial is known for the research of mass burials from the times of large terror.
At the end of 2016, he was accused of the manufacture of children's pornography (paragraph “B” of part 2 of article 242.2 of the Criminal Code) and depraved actions (Article 135 of the Criminal Code) due to naked photographs of the adoptive daughter at the age of three, four and six years. The historian was also accused of storing weapons (Article 222 of the Criminal Code) because of a piece of trunk from an old hunting rifle found.

In April 2018, the Petrozavodsk court acquitted him in the case of sexual violence and appointed 2.5 years of restriction of freedom under the 222nd article. However, a few months later, in June 2018, the acquittal was canceled, and Dmitriev was again in a pre -trial detention center in the case of violent acts of a sexual nature in relation to a minor (paragraph “b” of part 4 of Article 132).
The court has combined cases under four articles.
In October 2019, more than 200 public and cultural figures came in support of the head of the Karelian Memorial.
