The panel of judges of the Fourth Court of Cassation in Krasnodar, chaired by Judge Maksim Karaulov, softened the conditions of house arrest of Anastasia Shevchenko, accused under the article on participation in “activities of an undesirable organization” (Article 284.1 of the Criminal Code). As Aleksey Pryanishnikov, coordinator of the Human Rights Defenders of the Postcard, said in a conversation with MBKh Media, the ban on communication with other persons was lifted from Shevchenko.
In March, the Leninsky District Court extended Shevchenko's house arrest for six months, until September 1. On the same day, March 18, the Oktyabrsky District Court began to consider the case of Anastasia Shevchenko on the merits.
Shevchenko's preventive measure was extended for six months due to the inability to consider the case on time. The Rostov Regional Court on April 3, in an appeal, recognized this decision as legal.
- Anastasia Shevchenko was a member of the federal council of Open Russia. In January 2019, a criminal case was opened against her for “carrying out the activities of an organization recognized as undesirable on the territory of Russia” (Article 284.1 of the Criminal Code), the first criminal case under this article.
