Residents of Novgorod complained about the wooden statue of Perun in the yard

In July, two residents of Veliky Novgorod complained to the mayor's office to install a statue of Perun in one of the courtyards. Mayor's office and prosecutor's office decided to check the circumstances of the appearance of this sculpture. Most of the townspeople of the participants in the online survey were in favor of preserving the statue.

In July 2020, it became known that two residents Veliky Novgorod sent a complaint to the mayor's office about the installation of a wooden statue Perun in one of the city courtyards. The statue was carved a year earlier from a fallen birches local craftsman Andrey Melnikov. In the plot dedicated to this sculpture he told the local television company that someone was pouring grain near Perun, and also about the fact that he himself is going to install sculptures of two goblin in the same courtyard.

After the appearance of this TV report, two townswomen addressed the mayor's office with a letter, which, in particular, says: “Encouraged by the uttermost by the indifference of the authorities to his work, the pagan intends to make more goblin, turning the courtyard into a pagan temple. And this is in an Orthodox city! Many they simply do not understand that the image of demons in any form attracts the dark spirits rejoicing over the ignorance of the people .

Responding to this appeal, the head of the committee of the city administration for urban management requested from the chairman of the HOA information on whether a general meeting of residents was held on the issue of installation statues in the backyard. At the end of July in the yard with a check of circumstances the appearance of the statue came prosecutors. Residents of the house with whom inspectors met and confirmed that they liked the statue.

In August, the Novgorod edition of Vashi Novosti held a poll about the attitude to the statue of Perun. Most of the respondents were in favor preservation of the statue.

Later it became known that the check did not find violations in the installation of statues.

In turn, the pagan community "Volhv" regarded the statement residents of Novgorod as "attacks by Orthodox activists" and sent a complaint to regional department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. On September 1, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation for the Novgorod Region reported that no found violations: "Discussions of wooden sculptures of pre-Christian gods Perun and Chura stopped being Orthodox activists. Information about others attacks on the Slavic Pagan Community "Volhva" is missing" .
