Angara region: Residents arranged a picket against the inaction of the governor

Residents of Irkutsk, Yulia Karelchenko and Lyubov Alikina, took turns on September 22 to a single picket, protesting against the inaction of the region’s governor Igor Kobzev on the issue of illegal logging. This was reported by Siberia. Realities by activist Karelchenko.

“They change the figures in the regional government, divide the portfolios, and there is no result - the situation with illegal cutting of the forest does not only continue, but even worsens. The people who worked, remove, but are appointed from Deripaska, Bitarov ... They gave our area to the next robbery!”, Karelchenko believes.

At the end of August, the head of the Irkutsk region, Igor Kobzev, publicly approved a new law allowing continuous cutting of forests on the Baikal coast "for the needs of transport infrastructure." The official, who previously agreed with the protests of local residents against the adoption of the bill, said that "a significant deforestation of forests to expand the Baikal-Amur Railway (BAM) will not be required."

• On August 1, an action was held in Irkutsk in defense of Lake Baikal. On August 25, the court in Irkutsk fined for organizing the event of a participant in the procession - the chairman of the Irkutsk branch of the Yabloko party Grigory Gribenko, as well as the eco -activist Yegor Lesnoy, who went to the campaign "Volodya, drank themselves, not our forest." Forest, well -known shares in cleaning the coast of the lake from garbage, were appointed 80 hours of correctional labor.
• On July 31, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law allowing for the next 4 years the construction of any objects for the needs of the "transport infrastructure" in specially protected natural areas of federal significance, including, for example, in the central environmental zone of the Baikal natural territory, the boundaries of which are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
