Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced the head of the Russian branch of "Aum Shinrikyo" Mikhail Ustyantsev to 15 years in prison.
November 26, 2020 Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced Mikhail Ustyantsev . The court found him guilty under Part 1 of Art. 205.4 (creation of a terrorist community in order to promote, justify and support terrorism), Part 1 of Art. 205.5 (organization of the activities of an organization that, in accordance with recognized as terrorist by the legislation of the Russian Federation), Part 1 of Art. 239 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (creation religious association whose activities involve violence against citizens or otherwise causing harm to their health) and sentenced him to 15 years imprisonment in a strict regime colony.
According to the court, Ustyantsev in 2010 created and led a division of the Aum Shinrikyo organization and distributed the teaching of this organization among the inhabitants of Moscow, St. Petersburg and Volgograd.
The prosecution requested 18 years in prison.
On April 7, 2021, the Military Court of Appeal upheld the verdict Ustyantsev without change.
