The Violence.Net Center was recognized as an foreign agent

The Violence.net center was recognized as an organization performing the functions of a foreign agent. Its leader Anna Rivina announced this on Facebook .

“I’ll say this: 95% of us came for the anti-violence bill, and 5% for LGBT propaganda,” wrote Rivina.

So far, Violence.net has not appeared in the register of the Ministry of Justice. The head of Agora, Pavel Chikov, suggested that the organization would be included there by the end of 2020.

The Ministry of Justice began an inspection of the Center in December. Rivina said that this happened after a statement by a certain Mr. Trubetskoy, who refused to disclose his personal data.

“They said that he [Trubetskoy] doesn’t like our affairs and our finances. <...> It is now obvious that our activities to help victims of domestic violence are something bad not only in the understanding of some citizens, but also of government bodies,” said Anna.

Other organizations helping victims of violence have also faced scrutiny. The Department of the Ministry of Justice for the Nizhny Novgorod Region conducted an inspection and did not recognize the crisis center for women as a foreign agent. Director Anastasia Ermolaeva told “Takim Dela” that there was no reason for the inspection as such – “some kind of political activity.”

During December, several organizations helping people living with HIV were added to the register of foreign agents. “Things Like This” talked to their managers to find out how government pressure will affect their work.
