The administration of Joe Biden is preparing new sanctions against the Russian North Stream 2 gas pipeline to finally interrupt its construction. It is reported by Bloomberg with reference to sources.

According to the publication, sanctions can affect the Nord Stream 2 AG pipeline construction operator, companies providing vessels and materials for construction, as well as an insurance company working with the courts that lay the pipeline in the Baltic Sea.

“The State Department re -warns that any organization participating in the construction of the Northern Stream 2 pipeline risks falling under the sanctions of the United States and should immediately refuse to work on this gas pipeline,” the US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said .

Earlier, about 20 European companies left the North Stream 2 project due to American sanctions.

The North Stream 2 involves the construction of a gas pipeline with a capacity of 55 billion cubic meters a year from the coast of Russia through the Baltic Sea to Germany, bypassing the Baltic countries and Poland.

The construction of the Northern Stream 2 was stopped after the inclusion of sanctions in the US military budget in relation to vessels conducting sea laying of pipes. Due to the imposition of sanctions, the Swiss contractor Allseas turned the project work. After that, the Russian side said that it would finish the highway on its own.
