Vladimir Matveev is suspected under Part 1 of Art. 354.1 of the Criminal Code.
On March 25, 2021, it became known that a criminal case was initiated in St. Petersburg under Part 1 of Art. 354.1 of the Criminal Code (rehabilitation of Nazism) against 66-year-old teacher of St. Petersburg State University of Economics and RANEPA Vladimir Matveev.
According to the reports of the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee for St. Petersburg and the Prosecutor's Office of the Leningrad Region, the reason for initiating a criminal case was Matveev's speech at a webinar held for teachers "Preparing the memory of the victims of the Holocaust and soldiers of the Red Army." In his speech, the professor stated that "there was no mass extermination of Jews during World War II" and "called the Holocaust a 'myth' and a 'fiction'".
The professor was fired from both universities.
On February 3, the press service reported that the St. Petersburg City Court had registered the criminal case against Vladimir Matveev.
On March 3, 2023, the criminal case was terminated due to the expiration of the statute of limitations for bringing to justice under this article.
