Tver: sentence under Art. 280 Criminal Code

Vladislav Smirnov was found guilty of publishing xenophobic posts.

On April 13, 2021, it became known that the Central District Court of Tver found Vladislav Smirnov, a local resident, guilty under Part 2 of Art. 280 of the Criminal Code (public calls for extremism on the Internet) and sentenced him to two years of probation with a probationary period of two and a half years and a ban on administering websites for two years.

According to the press service of the court, in 2017, on his VKontakte page, Smirnov published materials calling for violence against Russians, Jews, law enforcement officers and employees of the state apparatus.

As a reminder, we believe that law enforcement agencies should not be considered a vulnerable social group protected by anti-extremist legislation - on the contrary, they should be exceptionally tolerant of criticism if it is not a real threat of violence.
