A criminal case was opened against Belgorod resident Anton Kovyazin under the article of knowingly false reporting of a terrorist attack (Part 2 of Article 207 of the Criminal Code) due to the fact that in the group’s correspondence on VKontakte he used the phrase “It’s a bomb!” as a characteristic of the rally on January 23. He told OVD-Info about this.

The news has been corrected. Initially, we reported that the hero of the news wrote the phrase in personal correspondence. It turned out that he used the phrase in a group on VKontakte in a comment to the post.

According to a Belgorod resident, he used the phrase shortly before the rally in a closed group of Navalny’s team in Belgorod. With this phrase he answered a question from a participant in the discussion about what would happen at the rally.

Already on January 24, the man was summoned to the police department, and in February a criminal case was opened against him. As a preventive measure, he was given a recognizance not to leave the place; a government lawyer is involved in the case.

On March 29, the Oktyabrsky District Court of Belgorod ordered a psychiatric examination, but Kovyazin was not hospitalized, as he appealed the court’s decision.

After the publication of OVD-Info in the telegram news channel “Belgorod No. 1” there was information that the source of the channel allegedly took a screenshot of Kovyazin’s comment. Under the nickname “L-Y-B-L-L-Y-P-O-P-P-E-R-S,” he allegedly wrote: “There will be a bomb planted at the rally, there will be many casualties.” The telegram channel said that the man confirmed to them that the account belongs to him.

On April 16, 21:41, OVD-Info appeared and contacted Kovyazin to clarify this information. He stated that the comment did not belong to him: “It [the comment] is attributed to me. They took everything and turned it upside down. And they kept me in the police department until I signed everything as they wanted. I explained this to them, that a bomb is not a bomb, but they said: “We need it that way.”

According to Kovyazin, in the correspondence in the comments he was asked: “What will happen at the rally?”, and he answered “bomb.”

“But this does not mean that the bomb is real. I wrote “well there will be a bomb” and that’s it. And they added the address, and what house, and the street, and the house number - they wrote a whole novel about it, but I didn’t write it.”

Moreover, according to the man, on VKontakte he used the nickname “Anton Kovaldi”, and he had no other nicknames. “They have already assigned me other nicknames and fantasized ...,” Kovyazin added.
