Navalny's treating doctors asked him to stop his hunger strike
The attending physicians of Alexei Navalny wrote an appeal in which they asked him to immediately stop the hunger strike in the colony. The text of the appeal was published by Mediazona.
“If the hunger strike continues even for a minimum time, unfortunately, we will soon have no one to treat. Our main task is to keep our patient alive and healthy,” the doctors write.
The appeal says that on April 20, Navalny was taken from the colony to the civilian hospital of Vladimir, and "he received access to something similar to an independent examination." Consultations were received from a neurosurgeon, a nephrologist, and the chief neurologist of the Vladimir region. The medical reports and examination results were handed over to the attending physicians.
Navalny's attending physicians consider "the admission of civilian doctors, the conduct of objective research and consultations" to be sufficient to end the hunger strike.
In the appeal, the doctors again demanded that they be allowed to see Navalny, as well as to transfer him to a hospital in Moscow. “Only there, given the complexity of his condition due to the previous severe damage to the nervous system by a chemical warfare agent, he can be provided with proper care and medical care at the proper level,” the appeal says.
The appeal was signed, in particular, by the therapist and cardiologist Yaroslav Ashikhmin, who has been treating Navalny since 2013.
