A new defendant has appeared in the case of Kan teenagers

In the case of three teenagers from Kansk, Krasnoyarsk Territory, a new minor defendant has appeared who lives in the Republic of Altai. This is reported by Novaya Gazeta, indicating a teenager under the pseudonym Andrei Ivanov.

Against the new defendant, a case was opened under the article on failure to report a crime (Article 205.6 of the Criminal Code). According to investigators, Ivanov corresponded via telegram with another defendant, Nikita Uvarov, and knew that he “has the goal of changing the state and political structure existing in the Russian Federation” and “is being trained in order to carry out terrorist activities.”

According to Novaya Gazeta, Ivanov was interrogated in July 2020 and March 17, 2021, the teenager pleaded guilty and made a deal with the investigation. Ivanov also testified against Uvarov, saying that the latter planned to “blow up or burn down the buildings of the police or the FSB.”

Uvarov himself denies the accusations during interrogations: “But I definitely don’t remember the correspondence about any explosions. If she was, then not seriously. I never wanted to blow up a law enforcement agency, and if somewhere I expressed it with a similar meaning, I said it because I wanted to appear more mature and more confident.

• Nikita Uvarov and Denis Mikhailenko were first detained in the summer of 2020 after posting leaflets in support of the arrested anarchist and mathematician Azat Miftakhov: they pasted one of them on the FSB building. The students were released with their phones confiscated. Having gained access to the teenagers' correspondence, the security forces learned that the schoolchildren had built the FSB building in the Minecraft computer game and were going to blow it up as a joke.
• The next day, Uvarov and Mikhailenko were detained again, this time together with Bogdan Andreev. Nikita was sent to a pre-trial detention center, and Denis and Bogdan were placed under house arrest. The forensic examination draws attention to the fact that teenagers shared the news of Novaya Gazeta and OVD-Info with each other, quoted Peter Kropotkin and Kurt Cobain in correspondence, and also listened to Yegor Letov's songs.
• On March 9, 2021, the Investigative Committee dropped the case against the Kanan teenagers for participation in a terrorist community (part 2 of article 205.4 of the Criminal Code), initiated because of their correspondence, in which they discussed the comic explosion of the FSB building, built in the Minecraft computer game. The investigation considered that there was no corpus delicti in the actions of teenagers, due to the lack of “the necessary structure”, units, as well as “a clear distribution of functions between the participants”. However, the charge against minors contained an article about training for terrorist activities (Article 205.3 of the Criminal Code).
• On March 10, 2021, the Investigative Committee announced the initiation of a case against Uvarov, Mikhailenko and Andreev on four episodes of manufacturing and three episodes of storage of explosives (part 2 of article 223.1 of the Criminal Code, part 2 of article 222.1 of the Criminal Code).
