The Duma adopted a law requiring the media to indicate the status of terrorist organizations

The deputies established an obligation for the media to accompany references to terrorist organizations with an appropriate explanation.

On June 17, 2021, the State Duma adopted in the third reading a bill, according to which Art. Article 4 of the Law "On the Mass Media" introduces the obligation of the media, when mentioning an organization included in the list of terrorist organizations, to report on this status. It was submitted to the Duma in January and adopted on first reading in May. The second reading took place on 16 June.

The law establishing the responsibility of the media for violation of this requirement was adopted on June 16. also

In their explanatory note, deputies Alexander Khinshtein and Sergei Boyarsky pointed out that until now the media had been obliged to indicate the status of organizations included in the list of extremist, but not terrorist. The adopted law eliminates this "obvious gap".
