Tula region: the court commuted the sentence in the case of supporters of the banned “Union of Slavic Forces of Rus'”

In July 2021, in the Tula region, Vyacheslav Podchufarov, Sergey Vorontsov and Svetlana Vorontsova were found guilty of participating in the activities of an extremist organization. In December 2021, the punishment was mitigated: real terms were replaced with suspended ones.

On July 12, 2021, the Leninsky District Court of the Tula Region found three supporters of the Union of Slavic Forces of Russia (USSR) Vyacheslav Podchufarov, Sergey Vorontsov and Svetlana Vorontsova guilty under Part 2 of Art. 282.2 of the Criminal Code (participation in the activities of an extremist organization).

According to the press service of the court, all three "subject to secrecy measures" continued the activities of the banned movement "Union of Slavic Forces of Rus'", namely, they convened and held meetings and spread the ideology of the community.

According to media reports, Podchufarov held the post of Acting USSR in the Tula region, Vorontsov - Acting Deputy Head of the USSR for personnel policy in the region, in Voronkov - the post of chairman of the local registration chamber of the USSR. According to investigators, in the village of Inshinsky, convicts were selling inserts “proving that they belonged to the citizenship of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.”

Podchufarov and Vorontsov were sentenced to three years in a penal colony with a one-year restriction of liberty. Vorontsova was sentenced to two and a half years of imprisonment with a suspended sentence of one year.

The defendants in the case did not agree with this decision and appealed against it. On December 2, 2021, the Tula Regional Court ruled on the appeal. Taking into account repentance, confession of guilt and advanced age, the punishment for Podchufarov and Vorontsov was replaced with a suspended sentence with a probationary period of 2.5 years.

Recall that on July 15, 2019, the Union of Slavic Forces of Rus' was recognized by the Supreme Court of the Komi Republic as an extremist organization.

The ideology of the movement is based on anti-Semitism, as well as on the belief that the Soviet Union never collapsed, so the current government in Russia should be recognized as illegitimate. According to the followers of the USSR, in 1991 there was a “raider seizure” of power, and the current leadership of the Russian Federation and the states formed on the site of the former Soviet republics are “organized criminal communities” that must be fought in order to restore all structures and bodies of the USSR.
