How long will it be rained in St. Petersburg

The weather in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region is influenced by the active cyclone Guido, which brought rain on the evening of Monday, August 2. According to the Hydrometeorological Center, more than 80 % of the monthly rainfall falls in the city. Petersburgers are preparing for the next flooding of the streets. The Ministry of Emergencies warns that in some areas very strong rains will be held in some areas, and the wind will be stormy.

"Paper" talked about the situation with weather forecasters Yuri Kutkevich. He tells how serious showers will fall on Petersburg when the rainy weather will end and how it will affect the mushroom season.

- Guido cyclone is approaching from the south. He will bring us continuous cloudiness and rains that are already going. The most intense rains will be tonight and during the upcoming night. There really can be a lot of precipitation, I don’t know about 80 % , but at least about half of the monthly norm can result in St. Petersburg.

Half of the norm is about 40 millimeters of precipitation, it is a lot. But if everything is fine in the city services (the storms work), then, in theory, nothing should happen, no floods and flooding. Somewhere we have “thin” places where water can accumulate-under some bridges, motorways, where there are some deepenings. Public utilities and Vodokanal know them.

Of course, such a amount of precipitation is atypical, but at the same time, these are not some records-it happened that precipitation fell more. Some troubles may arise among communal services, motorists and pedestrians. But this is not the situation when rivers and channels can get out of the shores. Repetition of European floods (in mid -July, ongoing showers caused floods in Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, the Netherlands and other countries; more than 200 people died - approx. “Papers” ) should not wait.

In gusts, the wind today [August 2] can reach 20 meters per second. As always, a stronger wind will be in coastal areas, on the coast of the Gulf of Finland and Lake Ladoga. At such values, the Ministry of Emergencies warns that there is no need to be under advertising shields, under the old trees. Not all trees can fall, but it can happen. Caution must be observed, cars are noted in these places [under shields and sick trees].

The scale of [what is happening] is quite serious. Owners and users of small vessels should be attentive tonight, and especially at night, if someone is going to sea. We must once again think about whether it is worth doing - maybe there is excitement, plus it pours from above.

Such weather will not last long. Rains will remain tomorrow, but not such intensity. The wind will also weaken (the Ministry of Emergencies reported that on Tuesday they were waiting for a stormy wind - approx. "Paper" ). But from Wednesday, August 4, the weather will improve more significantly, the precipitation will stop, the sun will look out again and daytime temperatures will begin to gradually increase. On Wednesday-Three, they will already be +20–22 degrees. And by the end of the week, at the weekend - already +23–25 degrees.

[Anomalous heat] should not wait. August will be warm. According to the forecast, the average temperature is expected to be 1-2 degrees warmer than the norm, but even 30-degree marks, most likely, will not be achieved. The total background of daytime temperatures in the first and second decades of August is somewhere +20–25 degrees, and in the third decade there are already smaller- +17–22 degrees.

In this case, there will be precipitation. June and July we had so arid that August would be a little warmer and a little moister than the norm. I cannot exclude the repetition of some serious rainfalls, but so far after these [nearest] showers end, so far there are not new ones. There will be rather short -term and small rains.

It must be hoped that after past rains and after today's rain, the temperature will increase, it will be quite comfortable for the mushroom harvest. I think it is worth expecting them soon.
