Xiaomi became the world leader in the smartphone market for the first time

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi came out on top in shipments for the first time, overtaking both Apple and Samsung.

According to Counterpoint , in June, Xiaomi shipments grew by 26% on a monthly basis, and its global sales share reached 17.1%. In second place is Samsung with 15.7%, in third is Apple with 14.3%.

The main driver of this growth is the decline in the market share of Huawei, which is under US sanctions, whose place in the market with the launch of the new and very successful Redmi series has now been taken by Xiaomi. The production of Samsung was affected by a new wave of the pandemic in Vietnam, where the key factories of the South Korean company are located.

According to the results of the second quarter as a whole, Xiaomi came in second place in smartphone sales after Samsung. Analysts expect Samsung to regain its lead by the end of the year, but the gap between the companies will narrow.
