Saratov: case under Art. 280 Criminal Code

A local resident is suspected of public calls for extremism.

On August 9, 2021, in Saratov, a criminal case was initiated against a local resident under Part 2 of Art. 280 of the Criminal Code (public calls for extremism on the Internet).

The reason for initiating the case was that in the “Typical Saratov” group on VKontakte, a man distributed materials calling for “destructive, violent actions against representatives of state authorities.” According to media reports, he also promoted far-right ideology.

The suspect is reported to have been arrested.
