Project publication plan to restart under the new name "Agency"

The investigative publication "Project", recognized by the Russian authorities "undesirable", will be restarted under the new name "Agency". This was announced in a conversation with The New York Times by the editor -in -chief of Project Roman Badanin.

In July, Project became the first Russian media recognized as an “unwanted organization”. According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the media “threatens the basics of the constitutional system and safety of the Russian Federation”. The Ministry of Justice also introduced in the register of the media-“foreign agents” the Badanin himself and another seven journalists of the publication. Badanin and his deputy, journalist Mikhail Rubin, after that left Russia, at the moment they are in the USA.

The European Union, due to decisions on the “project”, demanded that the Russian authorities immediately “stop the non-repressions against civil society and independent media.” Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that journalists of the publication could continue to work in other media.

The company was recognized as “unwanted” to the “project”, after the denunciation of the head of the federal project for security and the fight against corruption (FPBK), Vitaly Borodin, after denunciation. In the complaint, he wrote that the “project” was supposedly “controlled the US Congress”, received foreign grants, including from organizations recognized in Russia “unwanted”, and also called the “blasphemous” request of journalists about donations.
