A resident of the Chelyabinsk region was sentenced to a fine for uploading a photo of Hitler to the Immortal Regiment website.

A 19-year-old resident of the village of Roza was sentenced to a fine under Part 1 of Art. 354.1 of the Criminal Code.

On September 7, 2021, the Chelyabinsk Regional Court sentenced Ivan Kvitko, a 19-year-old resident of the workers' settlement of Roza, Korkinsky District, who was charged under part 1 of Art. 354.1 of the Criminal Code (public denial of the crimes established by the Nuremberg Tribunal). He was sentenced to a fine of 50 thousand rubles.

The court found that on May 5, 2020, Kvitko filed an application for public display of a photograph of Adolf Hitler in the Immortal Regiment Online project. The moderators found the application and blocked it. The initiation of a criminal case became known only in June 2021. The crime was revealed by employees of the Federal Security Service of Russia in the Chelyabinsk region.

We believe that the actions of the convict were qualified incorrectly. By itself, uploading photos of Nazi leaders to the site, even on May 9, does not constitute a crime under Part 1 of Art. 354.1, i.e. is neither a public approval of the crimes of Nazism, nor their denial, nor the dissemination of any kind of information about the activities of the USSR during the war years.
