Residents of Irkutsk continue to protest against the construction of a temple in Primorskoye

At the end of September 2021, residents of Irkutsk, opposing the construction of the temple of Alexander Nevsky in the microdistrict Primorsky, held a protest action: they pasted on trees in a grove near Zakharov and Bezbokov streets, which is supposed partially cut down, the names of the builders of the Irkutsk hydroelectric power plant, who planted this grove.

Many protesters are descendants of these builders, they want to keep this grove as a park dedicated to hydrobuilders.

On October 27, it became known that the residents microdistrict set up a tent camp at the construction site. The police did not disperse the protesters.

On the evening of October 28, after a meeting with representatives of the diocese, city hall and government of the region, the protesters removed the camp. The protesters proposed to move the construction to another place. Deputy Governor Andrei Bunev ordered to create a working group to select a suitable site.

At the same time, the residents of the microdistrict did not withdraw a lawsuit demanding that the building permit be cancelled.
