Facebook accused the Ukrainian citizen of theft and trade of data from 178 million users

Facebook accused the Ukrainian citizen of the theft and trade of data from 178 million users of the social network. According to Business Insider, the company filed a lawsuit against him in the Northern District of California.

The defendant in the lawsuit is Alexander Solonchenko, known under the pseudonym Solomame. According to representatives of Facebook, from 2018 to 2019 he gained access to identification data of accounts and telephone numbers of 178 million users.

The lawsuit emphasizes that Solonchenko allegedly used special software, which automatically sends a person a request through the Messenger application.

According to the company, Solonchenko in May of this year sold the received information on the Raid Forums online forum, and also posted 10 million users of Ukrainian Privatbank and the French analytical company on the Internet for free.

Representatives of Facebook called for a court with the participation of jury. The company counts on compensation for damage caused, while the amount of estimated losses in the lawsuit is not indicated.
