Former president of the country Mikhail Saakashvili, who has been holding a hunger strike in prison, was transferred to the Gldanian prison hospital, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the Penitentiary Service of Georgia.

“In order to avoid a deterioration in the state of health and in connection with the increased danger, the prisoner Mikhail Saakashvili was transferred from the 12th penitentiary institution to a medical institution for accused and convicted No. 18. We will gradually provide the public with additional information, ”the service said.

The consultation of doctors on November 8 in the evening announced the need to hospitalize Saakashvili, who has been holding a hunger strike for 39 days. And the mother of ex-president Giuli Alasania told reporters that her son was not in prison. “According to my information, a consultation gathered, which concluded that it must be transferred to a multidisciplinary hospital. At this time, ignoring everything, before our eyes he was taken somewhere. We drove two armored vehicles and flew a helicopter. We are waiting for two hours and there is no answer. There is no person, they took it, ”she explained. On November 8, Giuli Alasania came to prison with her grandchildren on a date with her son.

The personal doctor Saakashvili Nikoloz Kipshidze previously stated that the doctors, based on the results of the analyzes, unanimously decided on the need to hospitalize the ex-president.

On November 5, it became known that Saakashvili had failures in his memory, he loses its logical connection and cannot write a letter. In a conversation with the authorized Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Human Rights, Lyudmila Denisova, Ex-President of Georgia expressed concerns that he could be killed in case of transfer to a prison hospital. “They will kill me there. I am afraid for my safety, ”Saakashvili said. In early October, it became known that Mikhail Saakashvili secretly returned to Georgia shortly before the municipal elections. This is his first visit to the country over the past eight years. On the evening of October 1, he was arrested in Tbilisi and sent to prison in Rustavi. A criminal case of illegal crossing of the border has been instituted against him.

Immediately after the arrest, Saakashvili announced a hunger strike. On October 10, the doctor of the opposition leader said that his state of health has worsened. Due to the deterioration of the condition on October 22, the ex-president needed to conduct blood transfusion.

In Georgia, five criminal cases were instituted against Saakashvili, including abuse of authority and embezzlement. For two of them, he was previously found in absentia guilty. The ex-president called sentences against himself as fabricated, in particular-by order of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin. The Georgian prosecutor’s office noted that Saakashvili threatens at least six years of imprisonment.
