The most intense situation has developed in Almaty. President Tokaev shifted Nursultan Nazarbayev from the post of chairman of the Security Council (later spokeswoman Nazarbayevsaid that the decision to leave the Security Council was voluntary).

On January 6, the CSTO sent peacekeepers to Kazakhstan (mainly Russian). In Almaty, the "anti -terrorist operation" began. All banks stopped working. On January 7, Tokaev announced the restoration of order in the country. As of January 10, the authorities officially reported 7939 protests detained, 17 dead police officers and two military, as well as the murder of 26 “criminals”. On January 9, the Ministry of Information and Public Development reported 164 dead, but then these data deleted, calling the publication a “technical error”. Nursultan Nazarbayev never made a single statement and did not appear in public.
