The European Parliament was headed by the opponent of the abortion of Robert Metsol

European lawmakers elected Robert Metsol, a representative of Malta, despite criticism of her position on the issue of abortion. This was reported by the France Press agency.

Metsola gained 458 votes and became the third woman who headed the European Parliament. Starting from January 11, she temporarily performed the duties of the chairman in connection with the death of the former chairman of the parliament David Sassoli.

Robert Metsola is the mother of four children. She calls herself a defender of the rights of women and the LGBTK+community. However, Metsyol is sharply criticized by the left and “green” groups in the European Parliament for supporting the ban on abortion. In the Malta, which Metsola represents, abortions are illegal, and Metetsola voted against the adoption of a report with a call to the countries of the European Union to ensure safe access to the procedures for abortion.

The candidacy of Metsola was supported by the largest factions. On the day of election, she turned 43 years old. Robert Metsola will head the European Parliament until mid -2024.
