In Russia, a criminal case has been instituted against META, which owns Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, under articles on public calls for extremist activities and the assistance of terrorist activities. RIA "News" writes :
“The Investigative Committee of Russia opened a case under two articles due to META policy, which allowed violence against the Russian armed forces.
“In the Main Investigative Department of the IC of Russia, a criminal case has been instituted in connection with illegal calls for murders and violence against citizens of the Russian Federation by employees of the American company META, which owns social networks Facebook and Instagram,” the RF Telegram channel said in a report.
It is noted that earlier the press secretary of Andy Stone on the social network announced “the temporary removal of META on its platforms for a ban on calls against violence against the Russian military, calling this a form of political self-expression.”
“The indicated actions contain signs of crimes provided for in Article 280, 205.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (public calls for extremist activity; promoting terrorist activities),” the message emphasizes.
It is added that in the framework of the criminal case the necessary investigative measures are carried out aimed at the dacha of legal assessment of the actions of Andy Stone and other employees of the American corporation. ”
The Kremlin media submit META as a campaign of open calls for violence and murders of Russians. For example, the message of the Star channel:
“, Due to an aggravated situation in Ukraine, Meta Platforms will allow users Facebook and Instagram in“ some countries ”to call for Russians against Russians, Reuters reports, citing internal documents of the corporation.
It is emphasized that calls for violence against the Russians will miss if the report refers to a special operation in Ukraine. We are talking about a change in the policy of prohibiting inciting hatred in social networks. The relevant emails are allegedly sent to moderators of content. ”
In fact, the Reuters material quoted the application of the representative of META:
“As a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, we temporarily made exceptions for forms of political expression, which usually violate our rules, for example, violent statements such as“ Death to Russian Occupants ”. We still do not allow direct calls for violence against Russian citizens. ”
In addition, Reuters, citing some internal documents of the company, say that it temporarily admits some texts with the wishes of death by Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko. But this was refuted by the Vice President of Meta, the former British Deputy Prime Minister Nick Klegg:
“The company will not put up with general calls against violence against the Russians, as well as the murder of heads of state. Meta opens against Russophobia. ”
The publication of Reuters caused a disapproving edition even among some independently thinking Russian commentators. So, Sergey Parkhomenko in an interview with the YouTube channel “Popular Policy” created by Navalny said :
“This is a monstrous reason. He is objectively, really monstrous. If you know, it is that people who are engaged in the internal Facebook and Instagram ethics, people who, in fact, block those who swear, attack, who demonstrate some hatred and all that, they allowed to hate the Russian army and, apparently, allowed to wish death to Putin and Lukashenko. Roughly speaking, they simply twisted the algorithms of their robots, gave them a team: in these cases not to ban.
On the one hand, they had no other way out, because it is clear that all or almost all the posts coming from Ukraine, the Moldovan of Poland and to a large extent of Russia are filled with hatred, the words “death to the enemy”, “we will destroy you”, “so that you die” and so on. Of course, this is terrible. This is discrimination on a national basis in the strict sense of the word. But this is a world war. We are on the verge of world war, and it is quite obvious that people who unleashed the war in Ukraine, and we know the names of these people, <...> They are undoubtedly ready to unleash the world of the world. "
But in essence, Meta only recognized the obvious: in a country experiencing external aggression, calls for armed resistance - “death to the invaders” and the like - cannot be considered unacceptable. This is from the point of view of the Russian authorities and there is extremism and terrorism.
