E.On the largest German energy circle announced the abandonment of new gas purchases from the Russian Gazprom trading companies in Europe. This was stated by the chief executive director of E.on Leonard Burnbaum.
“We buy our gas in wholesale markets in Europe. E.on does not have long -term contracts for delivery directly with manufacturers. However, a small amount of natural gas in our portfolio was purchased from Gazprom trading companies in Europe ... In connection with the war in Ukraine, we stopped the purchase of new volumes from these companies, ”the statement said.
According to the oil and gas expert Mikhail Krutikhin, for Russia this refusal will be painless: "E.on has no long -term contracts with Gazprom, there were separate purchases through Gazprom traders."
At the same time, Burnbaum also said that E.on does not plan to leave the North Stream gas pipeline project. This step would give Gazprom the sole right to manage the project. “We do not consider the way out of the Northern Stream. This is an asset that cannot be sold. We could give it to the chief Russian shareholder for free (Gazprom - approx. TASS), but it would be unprofitable. If we abandon our rights to management, then we would give a majority shareholder from Russia the right to make decisions alone, ”he said.
