The Kaliningrad Automobile Plant allocated plots for vegetable gardens to employees “due to the difficult economic situation,” this was reported in a company press release.

“So, in order to provide additional social support for the company’s employees, the shareholders and management of AVTOTOR decided to allocate land plots for the development of vegetable gardens free of charge to everyone,” the press release said.

Plots of 10 acres are located in the villages of Lyublino and Kholmogorovka in territories owned by the company. “The plots are fully prepared for seasonal sowing - the land is plowed and harrowed. Currently, many auto dealers have already begun to develop the territory. To ensure the future harvest in the gardens of factory workers, AVTOTOR has organized the sale of high-quality domestically produced seed potatoes,” the statement says.

On April 28, it became known that Avtotor sent employees on corporate leave for three weeks “with payment from the employer in accordance with the norms of the current legislation of the Russian Federation.”

On April 19, the head of the Avtotor holding, Vladimir Shcherbakov, stated that production had decreased three times, and the company would have enough components for a month of work. “We are operating at a loss, but we are not planning to cut staff yet,” Shcherbakov said in an interview with Forbes then.
