The embargo on Russian oil is tantamount to the “atomic bomb” for the Hungarian economy - Orban

Prime Minister of Hungarian Viktor Orban announced that he rejected the last EU proposal to rejection of Russian oil. He called the initial proposal for the embargo "atomic bomb" for the Hungarian economy.

Orban believes that to refuse Russian Hungarian oil, a five -year period will be required, and not one year. Also, in his opinion, the refusal of oil will require billions of dollars of investment and Hungary access to funds from the European Restoration Fund after the pandemic.

Earlier, the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Lyain announced a phased rejection of Russian oil as part of the sixth package of sanctions, which should be adopted in the near future.

The Hungarian side announced that it would impose the right of a veto on any EU proposal, which will lead to an increase in restrictions on the import of Russian energy carriers.
