Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich signed an agreement on the sale of a Chelsea football club to a consortium, which includes American businessmen Todd Boeli and Mark Walter, Swiss billionaire Hansyorg Wiss and the investment company Clearlake Capital. Information about this appeared on the club’s website.
The amount of the transaction is more than £ 4 billion. According to Chelsea, £ 2.5 billion of them will be aimed at buying a club’s shares, the entire amount will be transferred to charitable purposes. Another £ 1.75 billion will be invested in additional investments in the development of the club. This amount includes investments in the development of the Stamford Bridge club stadium, the club and the women's team, as well as the continuation of the financing of the Chelsea Foundation.
The club’s statement says that the completion of the sale is expected at the end of May, provided that all the necessary permits of the regulatory authorities are received.
Bowley will become the main representative of the consortium in Chelsea. According to Forbes, the co-owner of the baseball team La Dodgers and the founder of Eldridge Industries takes 637th place in the ranking of the richest people with a fortune of $ 4.5 billion.
Abramovich, who owns Chelsea since 2003, was removed from the club management on March 12. This happened after the sanctions of the British authorities imposed against the Russian businessman that many politicians and representatives of the public had long demanded. Abramovich also fell under the sanctions of the European Union, but at the same time he was able to bring his two yachts beyond the EU, which threatened to arrest.
