“When we crossed the border, we wanted to turn around. We asked the platoon commander: how did it happen at all and why? He said, if we turn back, then the Russian border guards will shoot us.
We had no connection. In the city of Akhtyrka, we fought off the column. We did not know what to do in this situation. We decided that at the first opportunity, as it turns out, we will surrender. Because we did not want to fight.
We were not prepared in any way. When we served in the unit, we had a pure “working”: we went to the park, cleaned the equipment. These were my first fields. In the fields we equipped a tent. We did not have exercises in office. They never got behind the wheel. I was a passenger in the car. Before I went, I was twice at shooting and at the KMB once [shot] six rounds, ” said Private Rafik Rakhmankulov in an interview .
