UN: Almost 16 million Ukrainians need humanitarian assistance

In Ukraine, 15.7 million inhabitants need humanitarian assistance. And the number of those in need is growing, according to the report of the crisis coordinator of the UN in Ukraine Amin Avada. About 14 million Ukrainians were forced to leave their homes. These are mainly women and children.

Avad noted that due to the fourth month of the war, more than 3 million children in Ukraine were forced to suspend their studies in schools, hundreds of thousands of people did not have access to water and electricity, millions do not know where they can get food.

According to Avad, the UN over 100 days of the war provided humanitarian assistance to approximately 8 million Ukrainians. At the moment, the organization is working to resume grain and raw materials trade.

After the start of the war, grain exports from Ukraine decreased sharply. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that Russia blocked 22 million tons of food products.

Experts note that the world is extremely interested in Ukrainian grain. The poorest countries will suffer most of the lack of food. “The cargoes to Africa and the Middle East still reach, but the problem is that the grain has risen in price too much. In Egypt, 70% of the population sits on a program for subsidizing bread, which is now sold there for a penny. Their situation is not easy, ”said Andrei Sizov, director of the Analytical Center of the Council of People's Commissars of the Council of People's Commissars.
