A decision has been made in the case of a swastika on a monument in the Moscow region

The criminal case of a 34-year-old resident of the Moscow region has been sent to court to decide on the application of coercive medical measures.

At the beginning of July 2022, the Prosecutor's Office of the Moscow Region approved a decision to send a criminal case under Part 3 of Art. 354.1 of the Criminal Code (rehabilitation of Nazism) to the court for the application of compulsory medical measures.

According to investigators, on February 16, 2022, in the village of Nikulino in Istra, a 34-year-old local resident, suffering from a chronic mental disorder, spray-painted images of Nazi symbols on the monument to the fallen soldiers "Common Grave" with spray paint and wrote insulting expressions and inscriptions of obscene language, and also set fire to the mourning wreath. On March 22, 2022, he painted a swastika on the monument to the residents of the Troitsky village who died in the Great Patriotic War.

On October 13, 2022, the Moscow Regional Court decided to apply compulsory medical measures.

The defendant appealed the court's decision. However, the higher court dismissed the complaint. On January 31, 2023, the court decision entered into force.
