At the largest oil field of Kazakhstan Tengiz in the Atyrau region, an explosion occurred, as a result of which two workers died, three were injured, MIA Kazinform reports .
“In the Zhylyoy district, a pipe explosion occurred at the Tengiz field, as a result of which two workers born in 1985 were killed. Medical assistance is provided to three workers who have received various bodily harm, ”the police report the publication.
A criminal case has been instituted on the fact of the incident under the article “Violation of labor protection rules”. Representatives of Tengizchevroyil told the agency that the explosion occurred during the technical tests of the pipe - it could not cope with pressure, all technical work at the field was stopped, law enforcement agencies are already working on the spot. At the same time, Reuters claims that oil production on Tengiz is ongoing.
The Tengiz deposit is considered the second largest reserves and the leader in the level of oil production, the field development of the KazMUNAIGAZ NK (owns 20%of the shares in the project), Chevron Overseas (50%), Exxon Mobil (25%) and Lukarco (5%). It is this deposit that is provided by the supply of the Caspian pipeline consortium (KTK), which has been experiencing constant difficulties with the supply of Kazakhstani oil to foreign markets since the end of March.
In March, the consortium announced the suspension of oil shipment due to technical problems caused by the displacement of the power frame of one of the floating hoses. In June, the CTC stopped the shipment of oil due to the mines of the Second World War found in the port of Novorossiysk. In July, KTK stopped working for a month due to environmental claims from the Russian government. All three times, the decision to stop the supply of Kazakhstani oil was made by the Russian side unilaterally.
KTK is the main export route for Kazakhstani oil, it accounts for more than 80% of the volumes pumped by the pipeline. Russia belongs to 31% in the consortium, and Kazakhstan - 20.75%. Also, shareholders are Chevron Caspian Pipeline Consortium Company (15%), Lukarco BV (12.5%), Mobil Caspian Pipeline Company (7.5%), Rosneft-Shell Caspian Ventures Limited Overseas Holding Limited (2%), ENI International Nanv (2%) and Oryx Caspian Pipeline LLC (1.75%).
