According to the results of the parliamentary elections in October last year, the political forces of Iraq could not form a new government. In the spring of 2022, the parliament left the largest block, led by Muktada as-Sadr.

Due to the political crisis, Iraq for more than nine months is left without the government and, as a result, without the adopted budget. According to experts, the paralysis of the authorities and the split inside the Shiite community into the Right Fraction, which put forward the AS-Sudani into the premieres, and the supporters of the AS Sadra create serious risks of power escalation.

As-Sadr positions himself as an Iraqi nationalist, opposing simultaneously Iran and the USA. His program, among other things, includes constitutional reform and reform of the electoral system, which is now based on quotas for the largest ethno-religious groups of Iraq: Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds.
