Novosibirsk: fine for commenting on news about a terrorist attack in New Zealand

In August 2022, it became known that a court fined a resident of Novosibirsk for 400,000 rubles, who was found guilty of publishing a comment on a social network calling for terrorism and extremism.

In August 2022, it became known that the 1st Eastern District Military Court delivered a verdict in the case under Part 2 of Art. 205.2 of the Criminal Code (public calls for terrorism) and Part 2 of Article 2 80 of the Criminal Code (public calls for extremism).

In the dock was a resident of Novosibirsk, born in 1987, who, according to law enforcement agencies, published a comment calling for terrorism on the social network VKontakte under the news about the shooting of people in a mosque in the city of Christchurch in New Zealand.

The content of the comment, unfortunately, was not disclosed.

The man fully admitted his guilt, declared remorse, and even published an apology on his personal page on the VKontakte social network.

The court fined him 400 thousand rubles.
