The EU imposed new sanctions against Yanukovych and his son for supporting the Russian military invasion of Ukraine

The European Union imposed new sanctions against the former Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych and his son Alexander in connection with the war in Ukraine. This is stated in the EU journal.

They are included in the sanctions list “For role in the undermining or threat of territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine and gaining benefit from Russians responsible for the annexation of Crimea or the destabilization of eastern Ukraine”. It is also noted that Alexander Yanukovych carried out financial transactions with the LPR and DPR authorities.

The text states that Yanukovych, during his presidential term in Ukraine (2010-2014), pursued a pro-Russian policy, contributed to Russian military interference to Ukraine in 2014, and after removal from the authorities he moved to Russia, from where he "continued activities aimed at the destabilization of Ukraine." The EU Council, referring to data from various sources, claims that Yanukovych "was part of the Russian special operation to replace the Ukrainian president with him."
