On September 6, the Moscow Regional Court sentenced the Kaliningrad doctors Elena Belyu and Elin Sushkevich to 9.5 and 9 years of the colony, respectively. They were accused of deliberate murder of a baby. According to the court, the doctors went to this so as not to spoil the statistics of the hospital. Doctors themselves do not admit guilt.
Elena Belaya worked as a chief physician in one of the Kaliningrad maternity hospitals. In 2018, a boy was born there ahead of time, he was in serious condition. To provide him with medical care, Elina Sushkevich came to the hospital. At that time, she worked as a resuscitator in the perinatal center.
According to the prosecution, Belaya considered that the child would inevitably die and persuaded Sushkevich to administer him a deadly dose of medicine. The resuscitator agreed. As a result, the boy died of cardiac arrest. The baby died because the resuscitation did not give results, Sushkevich said .
The case was first considered in Kaliningrad. Against the backdrop of mass support of doctors, a professional community in December 2020 was acquitted by Bely and Sushkevich. Six months later, the case was resumed . The process was transferred to the Moscow region, where they were pronounced a conviction.
We are talking about this with the medical editor of Medusa Daria Sargsyan.
