Russian call-up found dead in a military unit in Omsk: a total of eight draftees have died since beginning of mobilization

Draftee Dmitry V. from Krasnoyarsk was found dead in an Omsk military unit, the NGS55 portal reports citing two sources. The news has been confirmed to NGS24 by the Forensic Medical Examination Bureau of the Omsk region.

The cause of death has not yet been established. The Bureau’s registration service informed NGS24 that the body had already been removed from the morgue by workers of the Ritual Service Agency and would be sent to Krasnoyarsk. According to the wife of the deceased Svetlana, there were no traces of alcohol or drugs found in the body.

Dmitry's wife found out about her husband's death on October 2: she received a phone call from the military unit and was informed that an investigation was being conducted. A close friend of the deceased with whom he had been mobilized said that they had been threatened in the unit amid a “conflict with other mobilized men.” The wife of the deceased said her husband was a patriot and wanted to join the “special operation. The wife of man from Krasnoyarsk with whom Dmitry was mobilized and shipped to the same unit says that he could not have committed suicide:

“We suspect he didn't do it himself, because Dima had no suicidal tendencies, had never attempted to take his own life. He has two small children. When he left, he was in a cheerful state of mind, planning to return alive and well.”

The portal says the body will be examined by experts and their report will be ready in six weeks. The Investigative Committee will provide the relatives with a copy of the autopsy report.

Since the beginning of the “partial” mobilization in Russia, at least eight draftees have died including the one in the Omsk military unit. On October 3, Baza and Astra reported that the body of a mobilized man, who, according to preliminary reports, had committed suicide, was found in the Sverdlovsk region. The body was found in the canteen of the training tank center at the military unit in Poroshino. The deceased had has neck slashed in two places with a blade lying next to him. According to Baza, the dead man's name was Vladimir Potanin and he was 46 years old.

Also in the Yelan garrison in the Sverdlovsk region, one of the mobilized men had a heart attack, another “engaged in alcohol abuse and died of cirrhosis of the liver,” the EAN news agency reported citing a medical certificate provided by the brother of the deceased. In Vladivostok, a 39-year-old truck driver, Sergei Fedoseyenko, died at a police station due to cardiac arrest after being brought in by the police from the military enlistment office, Mash reported. Boris Shavaev, mobilized from Zvezdny in Kabardino-Balkaria, died on the parade ground at a military base during a muster, NewsTracker reported citing a source. The body of a mobilized man was also found at the enlistment station in Andreevsky, Tyumen region, NEFT and 72.RU sources report. One of the mobilized men died in the Novosibirsk Higher Military Command School, says Nina Shalabaeva, regional human rights ombudswoman.

Putin announced a “partial” mobilization in Russia on September 21, and Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu promised to mobilize “about 300,000 reservists.” However, summonses are being handed out to almost everyone. For example, in St. Petersburg, police handed a local resident a summons to the military enlistment office intended for her uncle who had died nine years ago.
