“The heroes of Bakhmut are entitled to what every person has. I want their families and children to be safe and sound, to stay warm and in good health. I wish they would also have electricity supply, but the situation is difficult, so the light goes on and off. The most important thing is the light that shines inside,” Zelensky said during the awarding ceremony. As Nykyforov also shared with Ukrainska Pravda, Zelensky left Bakhmut after awarding AFU fighters. The fighters asked him to present a Ukrainian flag to the US Congress as a token of gratitude to the United States for weapons supplies and assistance.
On his Telegram channel, Zelensky published photos from Bakhmut and announced that the troops are proving with their courage that Ukraine will persevere and will not give up its lands. He added that he and the nation at large are proud of the fighters and once again thanked them for bravery and resilience in fending off enemy attacks.
