All defendants in the Tyumen case have their terms of detention in pre-trial detention center extended

The Central District Court of Tyumen extended the detention in a pre-trial detention center until March 29, 2023 for the defendant in the Tyumen case, Deniz Aidyn. This was reported by a support group for those arrested and the press service of the Tyumen courts.

The case against the Ural anti-fascists became known in early September. In addition to Aydin, there are five other defendants in the case: Kirill Brik, Yuri Neznamov, Nikita Oleynik, Roman Paklin and Daniil Chertykov. The young people were detained at the end of August in Tyumen, Yekaterinburg and Surgut. Oleinik is charged with creating a terrorist community (Part 1 of Article 205.4 of the Criminal Code), and everyone else is charged with participation in it (Part 2 of Article 205.4 of the Criminal Code). Brik and Aydin are also accused of making a homemade explosive device (Part 2 of Article 223.1 of the Criminal Code).

According to investigators , Oleynik “created a terrorist community” because of “his hatred of the current government regime.” Over the course of a year, according to the prosecution, the young man recruited his friends into this group to “carry out terrorist activities” in the Tyumen, Sverdlovsk regions and Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug.

The investigation considers Brik and Aydin to be “manufacturers” of explosives. During the search, a homemade explosive device was allegedly found on the young people. According to security officials, the young people planned to test it in the area of ​​the Tyumen thermal power plant.

All six defendants in the case - Neznamov and Paklin , Chertykov ,Brik , Oleinik ,Aydin - reported torture and violence after their arrest. Subsequently, the Investigative Committee refused to initiate a criminal case of torture based on Neznamov’s statement. In December, non-disclosure agreements were taken from four lawyers involved in the case. Chertykov and Paklin said in December that their health deteriorated in the pre-trial detention center and they were not provided with timely assistance.

On December 26, the rest of the defendants in the Tyumen case were also extended their detention in pre-trial detention centers. Kirill Brik - until March 29, 2023, and Nikita Oleynik, Roman Paklin, Danil Chertykov and Yuri Neznamov - until March 30, 2023. On May 28, Danila Chertykov’s detention in a pre-trial detention center was also extended on May 24 until July 30, reports a support group for those involved in the case.

On June 9, the Tyumen Regional Court approved the extension of the detention of Deniz Aidyn and Danil Chertykov, reports a group supporting the defendants in the case.

On June 15, the Regional Court also approved the extension of Yuri Neznamov’s detention in the pre-trial detention center, the Tyumenskoye Delo telegram channel reports . After the meeting, the young man was visited by his lawyer, who said that he was feeling well.

“The defense received a refusal from the Bar Association of the Tyumen Region regarding a complaint about the inaction of a lawyer on appointment and a request to issue him a disciplinary reprimand,” the group supporting those arrested also notes.
