Finland began to build a 70-kilometer fence on the border with Russia

The construction of the fence on the eastern border of Finland has begun. The fence will be established to protect against Russia and Russians who are illegally trying to get into the EU country. This was reported by the Finnish edition of Yle. Earthwork and clearing the territory from trees are being carried out. The first part of the fence - a short test fence - is planned to be built before the end of June.

Part of the fence will pass through private lands, so the authorities must agree with the owners. According to officials, these negotiations are successful and in accordance with construction plans. People will be paid compensation.

Near the fence a road will be built for the movement of border patrols and ensuring repair work. The test fence will be a three -meter height, prickly wire will be stretched over it. It will be equipped with surveillance cameras that can work at night, and lighting, as well as speakers in the most important areas.

In total, the planned fence length will be 55 kilometers from Aida to Southeast Finland, seven kilometers to North Karelia and five kilometers to Kainuu and Lapland. Construction will be held in the period from 2023 to 2025.
