Residents of Gagarin do not want to see a mosque in their city

In early March 2023, it became known that the residents of Gagarin, Smolensk region, were dissatisfied with the possible construction of a mosque in the city.

Citizens in social networks are discussing the initiative of the deputies of the district Duma Irina Rogova and Isa Isaev to build a mosque - according to some participants in the discussion, the deputies are trying to secure the votes of Muslims during the election campaign.

Opponents of the construction believe that the city has more pressing problems: building roads, putting the parks in order.

Information about the forthcoming construction of a mosque in Gagarin was disseminated by the human rights center of the Tsargrad society, to which opponents of the construction complained.

Deputy Rogova said that representatives of the Muslim community applied to her, as well as to the head of the administration of the Gagarinsky district, with a request to build a mosque. The deputy is sure that “all traditional religions have the right to exist on the territory of the region” , but the issue of construction must be coordinated with the authorities of the region.

However, the administration said that the construction of the mosque is not planned.
